श्रवणं हि नेतृत्वस्य प्रथमं लक्षणम्।”
(Listening is the first quality of leadership.)

Wise is the leader who speaks only after they have listened. This quote helps in today’s fast-moving corporate world, listening might not sound like a leadership strategy but the numbers say it absolutely is.research from Zenger Folkman shows that leaders rated highly for listening skills reached the 86th percentile for trust scores, while those rated poorly ended up in the 14th percentile.

We can clearly sense that when employees feel heard, they don’t just stay, they engage more deeply

But listening well isn’t easy. It takes the presence of putting aside the emails, the agenda, the next slide and really absorbing what someone is saying (and often not saying). It requires humility and restraint resisting the urge to immediately fix things, and instead staying attentive long enough to understand the root of the issue.

From a leadership lens, listening builds trust, strengthens culture, and drives performance. Are you leading conversations, or are you listening to lead?
